St. Francis Xavier, who died in China and is buried
in Goa, was born on April 7, 1506 in the Castle of Xavier at
Pamplopna in the north of Spain. He was ordained a priest on June 24, 1537.
He came to Goa, India on May 6, 1542 to announce the Good News brought by
Christ to the whole world, namely, a new life founded on
love for God and neighbor, victory over selfishness
and oppression external happiness.
His predilection was for the
poor, the sick, the prisoners, and all those in need. For them he
labored, begged and spent himself. He was a most lovable person, because
he first loved all others.
He
died on 3rd December 1552 on the way to china and later the body was
brought to Goa. On October 15, 1619 he was declared Blessed and on 12
March 1662 he was declared Saint together with Ignatius of Loyola.
